Mission

The mission of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) is to optimize clinical outcomes of antimicrobial use in adults and pediatrics across the UCLA Health System. The ASP will work to ensure the optimal selection, dose, and duration of antimicrobials that lead to the best clinical outcome for the treatment or prevention of infection while producing the fewest possible side effects and the lowest risk for subsequent resistance.

Center of Excellence

In October 2020, UCLA Health received a two-year designation renewal as a Center of Excellence (CoE) by the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA). This award acknowledges UCLA’s excellence in optimizing antimicrobial use and combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR). IDSA CoE aligns with evidence-based national guidelines such as the IDSA-SHEA guidelines and CDC's Core Elements. UCLA has held the CoE designation since May 2018.

CDPH HAI Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll

In December 2021, UCLA Health received silver level designation for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll. This designation acknowledges UCLA’s work in optimizing antimicrobial use, preventing the emergence of antimicrobial resistance and C. difficile infections, as well as demonstrating outcomes that follow national guidelines.
